Turkmenistan, Afghanistan Launch Construction Of TAPI Gas Pipeline's Key Section


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 11. Construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section, a key stage in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, has begun, Trend reports via an official Turkmen media source.

According to the source, a ceremonial opening of new joint infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section, an important stage in the implementation of the TAPI gas pipeline, has taken place at the Turkmen-Afghan border.

The opening ceremony involved President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and Acting Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Afghanistan Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund.

The construction of this section of the pipeline is an important step toward creating a sustainable energy infrastructure in the region, aimed at supplying gas from Turkmenistan to South Asia.

The TAPI pipeline is a large-scale project that envisions the transportation of natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. Construction on the project, with an annual delivery capacity of 33 billion cubic meters, began in Turkmenistan on December 13, 2015. Turkmenistan is the primary supplier of gas and plays a key role in the development of the pipeline, aiming to diversify energy export routes and strengthen regional economic ties.
