IPA CIS Delegation Praises Preparations For Parliamentary Election In Azerbaijan


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 30. Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov met on August 30 with a delegation led by the head of the observation mission of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), CIS First Deputy Secretary General Leonid Anfimov, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan to observe the extraordinary parliamentary election, Trend reports.

The CEC chairman noted Azerbaijan's close ties with CIS member states.

Panahov informed the guests in detail about the number of voters, polling stations, observers, the process of ballot paper printing, and other issues. He noted that representatives of international organizations had arrived in the country to observe the election. Preparations for the election were carried out following the requirements of the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan; comprehensive conditions were created for the convenient voting of electors.

Emphasizing that the parliamentary election is held for the first time in the territories liberated from occupation, the CEC Chairman noted that 54 polling stations have been established in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, where more than 42,000 voters live. He said 1000 web cameras have been installed in the country to observe the election.

In turn, Leonid Anfimov stated that preparations for the extraordinary parliamentary election in Azerbaijan have been organized at a high level, and the electoral legislation meets international standards.

The guest emphasized that peace and stability reign in Azerbaijan, which naturally positively impacts the election process.

“As part of the CIS observation mission, we observed the February 7 presidential election in Azerbaijan and witnessed the faith and trust of the people in their leader and the high level of organization and cohesion of the people. We hope that the parliamentary election on September 1 will be held at the same pace,” Leonid Anfimov said.

On June 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree dissolving the sixth convocation of the Azerbaijani Parliament and scheduling a snap election for September 1.
