Western Azerbaijan Community Issues Statement On Int'l Day Of Victims Of Enforced Disappearances

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 30. The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a statement on Azerbaijanis missing during the First Karabakh War, marking the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, Trend reports.

The statement highlights that many Azerbaijani nationals from Armenia have gone missing due to ethnic cleansing and Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. It condemns Armenia's enforced disappearances of Azerbaijanis as a serious human rights violation.

“The right to protection from enforced disappearance is enshrined in various international human rights instruments, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.

Armenia refuses to clarify the fate and whereabouts of these individuals or to disclose the locations of mass graves and other burial sites of Azerbaijanis it has killed. This refusal exacerbates the pain and suffering of their families, leaving them in unbearable uncertainty.

Addressing the issue of enforced disappearances is crucial to protecting human rights, informing families about the fates of their loved ones, and ensuring justice and peace.

The Western Azerbaijan Community reiterates its demand for the Armenian government to assist in clarifying the fate of Azerbaijanis subjected to enforced disappearance. It calls for full cooperation with Azerbaijan on this issue and for the prosecution of those responsible for these disappearances,” the statement concludes.
