Tajikistan Puts Into Operation Fourth Unit Of Nurek HPP


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 30. President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has inaugurated the fourth unit of the Nurek hydropower plant (HPP) following its reconstruction, Trend reports.

According to the presidential administration, the reconstruction of the Nurek HPP began in 2019, with an investment of 35.193 million euros. The updated fourth hydro unit now has a capacity of 8.266 million kWh per day.

Rahmon has instructed project managers to complete the modernization of other units and technical equipment with high quality and within the set deadlines.

The project has already seen the full reconstruction of two hydro units and the replacement of switchgear for 220 kV and 500 kV. Preparation for the reconstruction of the next hydro unit is underway with the involvement of the Austrian company Andritz and its subcontractor, Tajik SGEM. Work is also being carried out on replacing autotransformers and monitoring the dam's condition.

The first hydro unit of the plant was put into operation on October 24, 2022, after reconstruction, and currently operates with a capacity of 375 MW.

Originally, the first unit of the plant, with a capacity of 300 MW, was commissioned on November 15, 1972. The plant comprises nine units.
