Having Weighty Talks About Lifting Iran's Unilateral Sanctions Stands As Top Priority - FM

According to him, Iran's Foreign Ministry will take the bull by the horns and consider ironing out tensions with the US and burying the hatchet with European countries as a make-or-break move towards lifting sanctions against the Iranian Economy and getting back on track with trade relations with Iran.

Araghchi stated that the real deal is all about bringing back the 2015 nuclear agreement and giving the boot to those pesky sanctions.

It is noteworthy that Iran's parliament on August 21 gave Abbas Araghchi the green light, as his hat was thrown into the ring for the position of foreign minister, proposed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. A grand total of 222 deputies gave him the thumbs up.

To recall, the Comprehensive Plan of Joint Action on Iran's nuclear program was implemented between Iran and the P5+1 group (the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany) in January 2016. In May 2018, the US announced its withdrawal from the plan and imposed sanctions on Iran in November of the same year. Iran has announced that there will be no restrictions on the Iran nuclear deal in 2020.

Meanwhile, in late 2020, the Iranian parliament adopted a strategic plan to counter the sanctions, citing the non-fulfillment of the JCPOA signed between Iran and six countries and the imposition of sanctions on Iran.

Based on the decision of the Iranian parliament, as of February 23, Iran stopped the implementation of additional measures and an additional protocol included in the nuclear deal. As a consequence, the monitoring mechanism of the IAEA was reduced by 20–30 percent.
