CrowdStrike issues apologetic gift cards following global outage, faces redemption issues

(MENAFN) Following a major disruption caused by a problematic update to its applications, American cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has begun distributing USD10 gift cards to those affected by the outage as a gesture of apology. The outage, which occurred on July 19, led to widespread issues for millions of computers worldwide. In an effort to make amends, CrowdStrike is offering these gift cards for use with the home food delivery service Uber Eats.

The company has reached out to affected individuals through email, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the technical failure. The email, which also appeared on social media, expresses the company's gratitude and offers a gift card to cover the cost of a coffee or a late-night snack as a token of appreciation. The gift cards are valued at approximately 7.75 pounds in the UK.

However, some users who attempted to redeem the gift cards have encountered issues. Reports indicate that the cards were sometimes marked as canceled when users tried to use them. TechCrunch confirmed this problem when attempting to use a card on Uber Eats, receiving a notification that the card had been invalidated.

CrowdStrike spokesperson Kevin Benachi explained that the gift cards were intended for team members and partners who assisted customers during the crisis. He attributed the redemption issues to Uber’s system flagging the cards as potential fraud due to the high volume of transactions. Despite these challenges, the company remains committed to addressing the fallout from the outage and improving their service.
