Beirut airport cancels, delays flights due to Israeli threat
(MENAFN) Due to escalating regional tensions and the threat of a possible Israeli attack on Lebanon, all departures and arrivals at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport have been significantly disrupted. Starting from the evening of July 28, flights have been either delayed or canceled. The departure and arrival information display at the airport on Sunday indicated that flights to and from various global destinations are currently marked as "canceled" or "delayed," and these disruptions are expected to persist into Monday morning.
Lebanon's national carrier, Middle East Airlines (MEA), has announced that certain flights scheduled to depart from Beirut have been postponed until the morning of July 29. MEA, which operates flights to a range of destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and beyond, is affected by the ongoing security concerns.
The heightened tensions follow recent events in the region, specifically an Israeli military presentation to the government outlining potential scenarios for an attack on Hezbollah. This comes after a rocket attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday, which resulted in the deaths of 12 people. Israel has attributed the attack to Hezbollah, though the group has denied responsibility. In response, the Israeli military has proposed scenarios for a possible strike on Hezbollah, and these options are now under political consideration.
Earlier, the US, UK, and France issued travel advisories warning their citizens to avoid travel to Lebanon due to potential disruptions and security risks. The alerts reflect concerns about the impact of the escalating situation on air travel and overall safety in the region.
