Kuwait Sports Delegation Arrives In France For Paris 2024 Olympics

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, July 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti sports delegation arrived in Paris to participate in the Olympic Games (Paris 2024), to be held on July 26th until August 11, with the participation of 10,500 athletes.
The Kuwaiti flag was raised at the main headquarters in the Olympic districts (Seine-Saint-Denis) in Paris, where the administrative and technical staff keeps following up on all events and activities for the players.
For his part, Head of the Kuwaiti Fencing Federation Abdulkarim Al-Shamlan said in a press statement that the preparations of the national team player Yousef Al-Shamlan have been ongoing for more than a year under the leadership of his Italian coach Giovanni Maria.
He explained that the preparation plan includes the participation of Al-Shamlan in the Asian Fencing Championship, which was recently held in Kuwait during the month of June, during which he won the bronze medal.
Kuwait will be represented at "Paris 2024" by nine athletes competing in 6 games including Khaled Al-Mudhaf and Mohammed Al-Daihani (shooting), Yousef Al-Shamlan (fencing), Yaqoub Al-Youha and Amal Al-Roumi (athletics), Mohammed Al-Zubaid and Lara Dashti (swimming), Souad Al-Faqaan (rowing) and Amina Shah (sailing).
Kuwait has participated in 14 previous Summer Olympics, the first participation being in the 1968 Mexico Olympics with two players, while the largest participation of the Kuwaiti sports delegation was in the 1980 Moscow Olympics with 56 players.
The first Kuwaiti women's participation was in the 2004 Athens Olympics with Dana Al-Nasrallah in athletics.
Kuwait recorded its first Olympic medal through Kuwaiti shooting champion Fehaid Al-Daihani by winning the bronze medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and winning a second bronze at the London 2012 Olympics.
The participation of Kuwaiti players in the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil was the best in terms of achieving Olympic medals as Kuwaiti champions won one gold and 4 bronze medals throughout the Olympic participations. (end)
