COP29 To Offer Crucial Platform For Advanced Environmental Solutions - Dutch Special Envoy

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 25. COP29 will offer a crucial platform for introducing advanced environmental solutions, Dutch Special Envoy for Water Meike van Ginneken said during a training session at ADA University today, Trend reports.

She stressed the importance of international cooperation for sustainable water resource management.

"COP29 will become an important platform for discussing and implementing advanced environmental solutions. Additionally, it is necessary to note Azerbaijan's significant contribution to solving water issues and emphasize the importance of continuing joint efforts in this area," she noted.

According to her, the Netherlands is ready to work with the government of Azerbaijan for the success of the climate conference.

"We must pay attention to both mitigating the consequences of climate change and adapting to them. Water plays a key role in this process. We can make water a primary tool for climate change adaptation and will cooperate with the government of Azerbaijan and co-chairs to ensure the successful holding of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku," she added.

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70–80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The COP-the Conference of the Parties-is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin, with its secretariat in Bonn.
