Significant number of Democrats quickly shift their support to Kamala Harris after Biden`s withdrawal form presidential race

(MENAFN) Following Vice President Joe Biden's sudden withdrawal from the presidential race, a significant number of Democrats have quickly shifted their support to Kamala Harris as the party's candidate to take on Donald trump in the forthcoming elections. This swift move to back Harris, however, has not been unanimously supported by all key figures within the party. Former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have notably refrained from publicly endorsing Harris at this point, choosing instead to remain silent.

The question of Biden's candidacy had been a contentious issue within the Democratic Party for several weeks, with many members debating whether the 81-year-old should continue his campaign. With the November elections now just over 100 days away, the need to consolidate support behind a single candidate has become increasingly urgent. Despite the growing wave of endorsements for Harris, there remains a significant degree of skepticism among some Democrats regarding her ability to defeat Trump.

Biden has given his endorsement to Harris, though this support was articulated in a separate statement rather than as part of his initial announcement of withdrawal. This endorsement set off a wave of backing from other prominent Democratic figures and organizations. Key Black representatives in Congress, major donors, and influential lawmakers such as Senator Patty Murray quickly followed suit. Additionally, major political action committees, including "Priorities USA" and "Unite the Country," have also pledged their support for Harris.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Biden proclaimed, "Today, I want to give my full support and endorsement to Kamala to be the candidate of our party this year. Democrats, it's time to unite and defeat Trump. Let's do it." This call for unity underscores the critical need for the Democratic Party to come together as they prepare to face a challenging opponent in Trump.

Dmitry Milhorn, a consultant to LinkedIn founder and prominent Democratic donor Reid Hoffman, praised Harris, describing her as "the embodiment of the American dream." He emphasized her background as the daughter of immigrants, positioning her candidacy as a symbol of the opportunities America offers. As the Democratic Party rallies around Harris, the coming weeks will be pivotal in determining whether she can muster the necessary support to overcome the challenges ahead and secure a victory in the November elections.
