Search teams find missing helicopter in eastern Russia with 4 onboard dead

(MENAFN) On Monday, search and rescue teams in Yakutia, Russia’s Far East, discovered the wreckage of a Robinson R44 II helicopter that had been missing since Friday. Tragically, the incident resulted in the deaths of all four people on board, including the pilot and three passengers.

The helicopter was found in a completely destroyed state on a mountainside in the Aldan District of Yakutia. The search operation faced significant challenges due to adverse weather conditions, which hampered efforts from Friday through Sunday. Despite these obstacles, the mission persisted, and a Mi-8 helicopter, involved in the search, eventually located the wreckage early Monday morning.

The initial search efforts were guided by signals from the helicopter’s emergency beacon, which was activated on Friday. This crucial piece of information allowed rescuers to focus their efforts in the correct area, although the difficult weather conditions slowed progress.

According to a report by a Russian news agency, citing the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office, the wreckage was found to be severely damaged, and the bodies of the four victims were recovered at the scene. The authorities have since launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the causes of the crash and any contributing factors. The incident has cast a shadow over the community, and the investigation aims to provide clarity and answers in the wake of this tragic event.
