Delayed delivery of Boeing aircraft affects flydubai's growth plans

(MENAFN) Flydubai announced on Monday that its growth plans have been adversely affected by delays in the delivery of new aircraft from Boeing. The budget airline stated that it has started evaluating its destination plans and may need to review its flight schedule across its network due to the anticipated lack of new aircraft deliveries in the coming months. According to Flydubai, Boeing's delivery delays over the past years have significantly strained the airline's ability to plan for expected growth, particularly in response to the strong demand for travel following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The airline highlighted that the revised 2024 delivery schedule means Boeing will not deliver the 14 737 Max aircraft originally agreed for this year. Flydubai, which has more than 125 Boeing 737 Max aircraft on order for delivery over the next decade, called on the U.S. company to fulfill its contractual obligations regarding aircraft deliveries. In an effort to mitigate the impact of these delays, Flydubai has resorted to leasing agreements that include crew, maintenance, and insurance, though specific details were not provided.

Additionally, Flydubai mentioned that it has extended operating leases for some aircraft that were supposed to be returned to lessors under sale and leaseback agreements, resulting in extra costs for the company. The airline emphasized its commitment to exploring all possible options to manage the repercussions of these delivery delays on its operations and growth trajectory.
