Pakistan And Iran Deport Over 2,000 Afghan Refugees

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced the expulsion of over two thousand Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan.

The ministry stated on Thursday, July 18th, in a newsletter, that a total of 2,243 Afghan migrants were expelled from Iran and Pakistan in one day.

According to the ministry's newsletter, those expelled entered the country via the borders of Torghundi, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala in Herat province, and Silk Bridge in Nimruz province.

Based on reports from the border provinces, 43 individuals from the Torghundi, comprising 7 families; 147 individuals from the Spin Boldak border in Kandahar province, comprising 30 families; 827 individuals from the Islam Qala border in Herat province, and 391 individuals residing in Iran through the Silk Bridge in Nimruz province, have returned.

Recently, Pakistan and Iran have expedited the expulsion of Afghan migrants lacking legal residency documents. Malala Yousafzai, a Nobel Prize laureate, has recently urged her country to halt the expulsion process of Afghan migrants from Pakistan.

This mass expulsion of Afghan migrants comes amid a dire humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, where the situation has been exacerbated by the forced return of migrants.

Many of these refugees face severe challenges, lacking access to basic amenities, adequate facilities, and employment opportunities.

The influx of returnees further strains already stretched resources and infrastructure in Afghanistan, exacerbating the plight of vulnerable populations grappling with economic hardships and insecurity.
