Amman, July 16 (Petra) -- Minister of energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh said Tuesday the Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS) is a vital source of materials used in the mining sector's manufacturing industry in the region.
He spoke during a panel discussion at the Egypt Mining Forum 2024 (EMF) in Cairo on the importance of the ANS, a crustal block of juvenile Neoproterozoic rocks in Northeast africa and the Western Arabian Peninsula, as an exploratory target of the mining sector in the future.
Kharabsheh highlighted the importance of the ANS with rock exposures in southern Jordan, eastern Egypt and western Saudi Arabia, according to a ministry statement.
The session tackled the potential for mineral exploration and development in the ANS, known for its rich deposits of gold, copper, and other precious metals, offering tremendous opportunities for global investors.
The minister's presentation underscored Jordan and Egypt as ANS states, noting the strategic steps the two countries took to open up to local and foreign mining companies to develop untapped mineral resources, leveraging the ANS's strategic location as a gateway between Africa and the Middle East to attract investment.
On the sidelines of the conference, Kharabsheh and Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi inaugurated the third mining exhibition.
The EMF, with the participation of senior government officials, policymakers, thought leaders, commodity experts, investors and financial institutions, tackled key trends shaping the mining industry and provided in-depth analysis of market dynamics and insights into pressing issues in the global mining landscape.
