Supposed German ‘war plan’ gets exposed

(MENAFN) Reports from *Der Spiegel* and *Bild* indicate that the German Defense Ministry has developed contingency plans for a potential military conflict with Russia. The alleged documents outline Germany's role as a crucial transit nation for NATO forces, emphasizing the expectation for its civilian population and services to support incoming military personnel.

Last month, the German government updated its wartime guidelines for the first time since 1989, introducing measures such as mandatory conscription and directives for manufacturers to produce military supplies. The report on the classified document, known as the ‘Operational Plan Germany’ (OPLAN DEU), suggests that the country must be capable of facilitating the movement of 800,000 NATO troops and around 200,000 vehicles, including tanks and other military equipment, from ports in the Netherlands and Belgium to Eastern Europe within a timeframe of three to six months.

To accomplish this, several major highways would be designated for military use, effectively restricting civilian access. Local communities would be tasked with providing essential support to the passing troops, including food, accommodation, rest areas, and fuel.

Ralph Tiesler, president of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, highlighted potential threats to these military operations, noting that "enemy actors could take measures to hamper or slow down the movement of NATO troops," which could involve sabotage or missile strikes. Consequently, German police and emergency services would need to prioritize the protection of these critical routes and address any attacks that might occur.

The revelations come at a time of heightened tensions in Europe, raising questions about Germany's readiness and strategic role in potential military conflicts involving NATO and Russia.
