São Paulo – More companies from Goiás are likely to join the Halal do Brasil project in the wake of meetings and presentations with representatives from the project earlier this week in state capital Goiânia. The project is spearheaded by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Brazilian Trade and investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) to promote made-in-Brazil halal foods and beverages in Muslim-majority countries.
On last Tuesday (2) and Wednesday (3), ABCC international projects manager Fernanda Dantas saw a major interest from food and beverage companies in joining the project and pursuing training to export halal foods. The state is a leading producer of poultry and beef, for example. In addition to presenting the initiative at an event held in the headquarters of Goiás State Industries Federation (Fieg), the project's representatives held technical visits to Goiás-based companies.
“Companies could potentially participate in our actions and join us to reach this market, some thinking on certification and others in trade promotion,” Dantas told ANBA following the meetings. Besides her, ABCC market intelligence manager Marcus Vinícius presented data and statistics of the Muslim market and sales executive Hans Lazarte Lima met with local companies.

Dantas said some companies showed interest in participating in the buyer project the Halal do Brasil project is organizing for the second half of the year. Importers from Muslim-majority countries will come to Brazil to meet and negotiate with halal vendors. There was also interest from Goiás-based companies to participate in Mihas, the world's largest halal industry show, to be held in Malaysia in September. During the seminars held in Goiânia, halal food and beverage production processes and specifications were also presented, like the prohibition of pork traits and the Islamic method of slaughtering by a Muslim.
