Second Round Of Iran's Presidential Elections Kicks Off


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TEHRAN, July 5 (KUNA) -- Iranians headed out to cast their votes in the second round of the presidential elections on Friday.
The process in over 59,000 booths is set to receive over 61 million voters across the country. The interior Ministry has the right to extend the voting period upon necessity.
Candidates Saeed Jalili, who represents supreme leader Ali Khamenei and former health Minister Masoud Pezeshkian are competing in this round.
The first round was held last Friday among four candidates, who all failed to receive the number of votes required to win, which is 50 percent and above.
The second round involves the two candidates that received the highest number of votes, as Pezeshkian achieved 42.6 percent, while Jalili had 38.8 percent. (end)
