Amman, July 2 (Petra) - Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Hisham Haisa, underscored the authority's dedication to providing water to farmers, enhancing their ability to face water challenges, particularly those posed by climate change.
This was highlighted during the opening of the workshop titled "Results of the Study of the Economic Value of Water in the Jordan Valley," held Tuesday in collaboration with the Water Efficiency and Conservation Project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The event was attended by Frank O'Brien, Director of the Water Efficiency and Conservation Project in Jordan.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Water, Haisa stressed that the authority aims to achieve optimal use of water in the agricultural sector, focusing on the economic value of water in agriculture. This endeavor is expected to benefit the state, national production, and farmers alike.
He elaborated that the authority has a comprehensive plan to advance agriculture and services in the Jordan Valley region. This plan takes into account the findings of the study, which highlight future water needs in agriculture and the potential for expanding crop production.
The goal is to ensure economic benefits for farmers by diversifying agriculture in the valley, thereby fostering economic and agricultural development and ensuring food security. The plan will determine the relationship between various agricultural varieties and their respective water requirements.
The workshop also addressed the relevant economic and social impacts, aiming to bolster national efforts to improve water resource management and usage efficiency.
