AD Ports Group signs strategic MoU with International Trade Centre

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Ports Group has announced the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations. The MoU, signed in Geneva, establishes a framework for collaboration aimed at advancing trade facilitation, digital trade, logistics, and transport initiatives. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, and Pamela Coke Hamilton, Executive Director of the International Trade Centre, formalized the agreement.

Under this partnership, Abu Dhabi Ports Group and ITC will jointly pursue various initiatives to enhance trade facilitation and improve the efficiency of transportation, ports, maritime, and logistics services across the UAE, GCC countries, and developing nations. Key objectives include the adoption of digital trade solutions, capacity building through training programs, and the exchange of expertise and technical assistance.

The collaboration will involve a comprehensive review of existing frameworks and policies related to these sectors to assess their effectiveness. Efforts will focus on developing and modernizing border services to align with international best practices, thereby facilitating smoother and more efficient trade flows.

Furthermore, the MoU underscores a commitment to supporting developing and least developed countries, particularly in implementing the Trade Facilitation Agreement issued by the WTO. This agreement aims to streamline customs procedures and enhance cooperation between customs authorities, ensuring seamless movement of goods across borders and promoting economic growth through improved trade facilitation measures.

By leveraging their respective expertise and resources, Abu Dhabi Ports Group and ITC aim to foster sustainable development and bolster international trade by enhancing logistical capabilities and trade facilitation frameworks globally.
