Le Pen`s group hits new popularity record

(MENAFN) The French right-wing National Rally party, previously led by Marine Le Pen, has achieved its highest popularity ratings as France prepares for a snap election called by President Emmanuel macron following his party's disappointing performance in the European Parliamentary election.

Radio Classique recently disclosed the results of its LegiTrack OpinionWay survey, revealing that the National Rally has reached unprecedented levels of voter support in the lead-up to the legislative elections. The party now commands 37% of voting intentions, marking a 2-point increase in just one week. In contrast, the left-wing New Popular Front alliance garners 28% support, while Macron's centrist alliance trails behind at 20%.

Marine Le Pen, who led the National Rally (formerly known as the National Front) for many years and has contested the presidency thrice, remains a prominent figure within the party. She currently leads its faction in parliament, while the party itself is now headed by 28-year-old Jordan Bardella.

The survey findings also highlight a significant perception among respondents that no single party is likely to secure a majority in the National Assembly. Many anticipate a scenario of "cohabitation," where a president and prime minister come from opposing political factions.

In an interview with Le Figaro, Le Pen indicated that should the National Rally triumph in the parliamentary vote, she does not foresee an immediate push to remove President Macron from office. Instead, she advocates for avoiding "institutional chaos" and foresees a period of cohabitation between potentially adversarial political forces.
