Trump-Biden clash over US economy, inflation issues ahead of presidential elections

(MENAFN) In a heated debate on CNN, former US President Donald trump sharply criticized his rival, current President Joe Biden, accusing him of mishandling the US Economy and exacerbating inflation to catastrophic levels. Trump claimed that Biden's economic policies have led to soaring prices and increased living costs, which have emerged as central issues in the upcoming November presidential election campaign.

According to Trump, during the debate, "He did not do a good job. He did a bad job. Inflation is killing our country. It is killing us." Trump emphasized that he had left a country with minimal inflation and a strong economic foundation, and blamed Biden for undoing these gains. He asserted, "I handed him a country without inflation. He was excellent. He was wonderful. All he had to do was leave it alone. He destroyed it."

In response, President Biden defended his administration's economic record, countering Trump's accusations by stating that Trump had "completely destroyed" the American economy during his presidency. Biden pointed out that when he assumed office, there was no inflation because the economy was in a state of disrepair. He highlighted his administration's efforts in creating millions of new jobs, particularly in minority communities, as evidence of economic progress under his leadership.

The debate underscored the pivotal role of economic issues, particularly inflation and the cost of living, in shaping public opinion and influencing voter preferences. A recent poll by the Gallup organization revealed that Americans consistently view inflation as the most pressing financial concern for their families over the past three years, underscoring the significance of these issues in the ongoing presidential campaign. As both candidates seek to sway voters with contrasting narratives on economic stewardship, the upcoming election promises to hinge significantly on perceptions of economic management and policies aimed at addressing inflationary pressures.
