Turkey sees significant rise in demand for post-earthquake shelters
(MENAFN) Demand for post-earthquake shelters has surged following last year's devastating earthquakes that struck 11 provinces across Türkiye, causing extensive damage to thousands of buildings, according to Karmod, a prominent building company. Enes Kizilbay, Cabin Sales Manager at Karmod, attributed this heightened demand to expert recommendations emphasizing pre- and post-earthquake preparedness measures.
Kizilbay highlighted a significant rise in requests, particularly from housing developments in Istanbul, as well as from owners of detached houses and villas seeking shelters within their gardens. He noted that even shopping malls are now seeking these shelters for emergency meeting areas.
These post-earthquake shelters play a crucial role as immediate living spaces in the aftermath of seismic events. Kizilbay emphasized their function in providing safe, readily deployable areas that can be urgently required following a disaster. He explained that these shelters are equipped with off-the-shelf electrical and plumbing systems, ensuring functionality and safety.
"The most popular sizes for these shelters are 240x400 and 240x600, providing ample space for a family," Kizilbay noted. He added that housing complexes are proactively acquiring these units and situating them in suitable locations within their premises as a precautionary measure. Additionally, these shelters serve as storage spaces for essential tools needed post-earthquake, ensuring readiness and quick response capabilities.
Overall, Karmod's initiative underscores Türkiye's proactive approach to disaster preparedness, aiming to mitigate the impact of earthquakes and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents during emergencies.
