Drinking Water Crisis In Pattan: Locals Allege Misuse By Influential Individuals


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Residents of Pattan town in North Kashmir on Saturday said that due to the frequent unavailability of drinking water they are facing immense hardships.

Locals have expressed deep concern and frustration over what they perceive as official neglect in addressing their plight. They allege that despite repeatedly informing the concerned department about the issue, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

They allege that the scarce drinking water supply is being diverted by influential individuals for irrigating orchards and kitchen gardens, adding to the shortage for the rest of the town. This alleged misuse of resources, coupled with the lack of official intervention, has left the residents in a state of desperation and anger.

Observer,
Ajaz Ahmed Mir, a local alleged that the
orchards and kitchen gardens in Iqbal Colony,
Poshwani and Parmohalla are irrigated
using the drinking water with the nexus of
employees.


“How
is it possible that hundreds of canals of orchards and kitchen gardens are irrigated without any other source as no canal is going through these
orchards, it
is only this drinking water that is illegally
utilized in nexus the concerned,” Mir alleged.

Locals have demanded
action against
these employees and have requested the higher ups of the department to initiate an
enquiry in the matter.

When contacted, Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti Department, Subdivision Pattan, said the problem would be resolved at the earliest.

“We will try our level best to address the grievance of locals and I promise action against employees who are incompetent and involved in any illegal activity,” he said.
