Umm Salal Rope In Mance As QSL Sides Continue To Build Up For New Season

Doha, Qatar: Qatar Stars League (QSL) side Umm Salal on Saturday announced the signing of Croatian forward Antonio Mance ahead of the 2024-25 domestic season. The 29-year-old will replace Lucas Joao whose contract was expired last season.
Umm Salal made the announcement after Mance underwent successful medical tests as he joins the Qatari side from Hungarian club Zalaegerszeg.
The Orange Fortress are looking to strengthen their squad as they hope for a better show in the new season after finishing seventh in the top flight. They will set up their pre-season training camp in the Netherlands from July 17.
In other development, Al Gharafa confirmed the signing of veteran Real Madrid striker Joselu on Friday.
The arrival of the 34-year-old Spaniard is expected to boost the Cheetahs, who remained among the top-performing sides in the last season. Joselu netted 18 times in 49 appearances for Real Madrid and is a part of Spain's Euro 2024 squad.
Al Gharafa finished third in the QSL with their initial target in the forthcoming season being to clear the AFC Champions League Elite qualifiers in August.
The Pedro Martins-coached side will train in Slovakia from July 16 to August 1.
Also, Al Rayyan said it had parted ways with coach Leonardo Jardim after“reaching an agreement to mutually terminate the contract.”
“The club management is also working on hiring a new head coach to manage the team and prepare for the upcoming season, an announcement will be made very soon,” the club said in a statement.
According to reports, Algerian tactician Djamel Belmadi – a former Al Duhail coach – is likely to replace Jardim as Al Rayyan coach.
Belmadi, 48, last coached Algerian national side a role he left following team's early exit at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
Al Rayyan are likely to make the announcement soon as they will begin their preparations in the Netherlands from July 10.
