In a bid to boost its Electronics manufacturing sector, the Karnataka government has approached the Centre for support in establishing four electronic manufacturing clusters (EMCs) across the state.

A high-level delegation from Karnataka, led by Minister for IT and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge, met with Union Minister for Electronics and Information technology Ashwini Vaishnav in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Minister Kharge presented a memorandum urging the central government to expedite the clearance of files related to the proposed EMCs.

The state government has identified four strategic locations for these clusters. The first, at Kotur-Belur in Dharwad district, has already been approved by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and is currently in the project landing phase.

The other three proposed EMCs would be established at Kochanahalli in Mysuru district, Adinarayanahosahalli in Bengaluru Rural district, and Vasantanarasapura in Tumakuru district.

Karnataka's push for these EMCs is rooted in its strong foundation in the electronics sector. The state currently hosts over 300 export-oriented manufacturing units and boasts the largest chip design hub in India, with more than 100 fabless chip design houses.

This existing infrastructure positions Karnataka as a natural choice for further expansion in the electronics manufacturing domain.

The establishment of these clusters is expected to attract further investment, create jobs, and enhance Karnataka's competitiveness in the global electronics market.

The success of these EMCs could potentially transform Karnataka into a powerhouse of electronics production, contributing significantly to India's technological advancement and economic growth.

As the proposal awaits central approval, industry experts are optimistic about the potential impact of these EMCs on Karnataka's economy and India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem as a whole.

The outcome of this initiative could set a precedent for other states looking to boost their technological capabilities and contribute to India's digital future.
