Moecc Organises Introductory Meeting For Summer Programme

Doha: This Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) yesterday held an introductory meeting for students joining the first Summer Environmental Club programme.

The event will be held from June 30 to July 18, 2024, with the participation of 20 young school students. In this context, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Department at MoECC Mohammed Ahmed Al Dhahi said that the programme aims at creating environmental awareness among young people, instill a culture of environmental sustainability, and introduce the Qatari environment, both marine and terrestrial.

He said that the programme comes within the Ministry's vision of raising environmental awareness among all segments of society, and creating a new generation that understands the importance of the environment.

Al Dhahi said that this group of young people who are joining the first edition will be the nucleus for creating a new generation of Qatari environmental pioneers, which will qualify them to play a major role in spreading environmental awareness among segments of local society.

He said that the group comprising 20 students will undergo an integrated course lasting 15 days, with the aim of developing their environmental skills and knowledge, as the schedule and activities of the programme have been prepared with great care.

Al Dhahi said that the programme includes many environmental workshops and lectures that will be held at the MoECC building, presented by a group of Ministry experts who have extensive experience in environmental awareness programs.

He said that these lectures aim to introduce the components of the Qatari environment, including local plants and animals. Al Dhahi said that many outside trips will be organiesed to introduce plants eco-system and the goals of sustainable environmental development within the Qatar National Vision 2030.

He said that the programme will provide knowledge to understand local environmental issues, through innovative activities, workshops, lectures and trips, which encourage effective participation in environmental activities and initiatives launched by the state on an ongoing basis.

The workshops include a number of initiatives aimed at raising awareness of recycling processes and their role in achieving environmental sustainability. The target group will also be introduced the biodiversity of the Qatari environment, its role in preserving the environment and the food chain, and the state's efforts to protect it and work to enrich it.

The programme will include organising trips to the Qur'anic Botanical Garden at Qatar Foundation and the Qatar National Museum, laboratories of the MoECC and research vessel Janan.
