KLM Boeing 777 returns to Amsterdam because of technical issue

(MENAFN) The Dutch air traffic control authority reported that a KLM Royal Dutch airlines Boeing 777 had to return to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on Sunday following the detection of an unspecified technical issue. According to a spokeswoman for the authority, flight KLM 705, which was en route to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, diverted its course over Belgium as a precautionary measure and requested a landing. The nature of the problem has not been disclosed. KLM assured that the safety of passengers and crew was never compromised and that an alternative aircraft would be deployed to complete the flight. Flight tracking data from the Flight Radar 24 website confirmed the aircraft's return to Schiphol Airport.

In related news, Boeing is currently navigating leadership challenges. In March, Boeing's CEO David Calhoun announced his intention to step down at the end of the year. Despite being viewed as an ideal successor, GE Aerospace CEO Larry Culp declined Boeing's offer to take over the leadership role. Other potential candidates for the top job include Stephanie Pope, Boeing's chief operating officer, and Pat Shanahan, president of Spirit AeroSystems, both of whom are reportedly facing obstacles in their paths to the CEO position.
