Five People Killed, 44 Others Wounded As Blaze Rips Through Turkiye's Wildfires

Ankara, Turkey: Five people were killed, and 44 others injured of whom 10 are in critical condition as a result of the wildfires that went ablaze in areas in southeast Turkiye overnight, according to the Turkish Minister of health Fahrettin Koca in a post on X account.

Koca pointed out that the fires were controlled by virtue of the efforts made by firefighters, adding that the cooling efforts are still ongoing.

Also, teams from Turkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, Forest Regional Directorates, alongside 112 emergency health teams were dispatched to participate in fire suppression efforts.

For his part, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the fire started late on Thursday, when a stubble burns some 30 kilometers south of Diyabakir spread rapidly due to strong winds, affecting five villages.
