European Championship's Azerbaijani Chess Winner Returns Home (PHOTO)


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. The first Azerbaijaniwoman to win a gold medal at the European Individual ChessChampionship held on the Greek island of Rhodes, Ulviya Fataliyevahas returned to her homeland, Trend reports.

The sportswoman was welcomed at Heydar Aliyev InternationalAirport by representatives of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, themass media, fans, relatives, and public representatives.

Ulviya Fataliyeva won the continental championship after playinga draw with a representative of Georgia, Nina Batsiashvili, in the10th round.

After that, the Azerbaijani chess player, who scored 8.5 points,became unattainable to her rivals.

To note, the European Chess Union has been organizing theEuropean Women's Individual Championship since 2000. UlviyaFataliyeva went down in history as the first Azerbaijani chessplayer to win a gold medal in the individual championship of thecontinent.
