Industry director cautions about international gunpowder incufficiency
(MENAFN) Vista Outdoor, a leading United States company that owns multiple firearms businesses, has issued a warning about a potential global shortage of gunpowder supplies, which could lead to a significant increase in ammunition prices. According to a report by Newsweek, the Minnesota-based company plans to implement a comprehensive price hike for its ammunition and gunpowder products starting January 1. Vista Outdoor's vice president of sporting product sales, Brett Nelson, cited "unprecedented demand for and an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder" due to world events as the reason behind the price increase.
In a letter to customers, Nelson explained that the company's suppliers had notified them of the heightened demand and impending scarcity of gunpowder on a global scale. As a response to these challenges, Vista Outdoor has decided to raise its pricing substantially to offset the increased costs. The company informed customers that unless they cancel a delivery, existing and future orders shipped on or after January 1, 2024, will be repriced to reflect the new prices. Revised price lists are expected to be provided to customers in the coming weeks.
Among the companies expected to follow suit with price increases are Remington, Alliant Powder, CCI, Federal, SEVI-Shot, and Speer. The ammunition industry witnessed a surge in prices during the Covid pandemic due to heightened sales and disruptions in supply chains.
While Vista Outdoor did not specify the exact global events contributing to the price hike, Newsweek noted that the conflict in Ukraine and hostilities between Israel and Hamas had significantly driven up ammunition demand.
As concerns rise about the potential impact on firearms and ammunition enthusiasts, the industry braces for the forthcoming price adjustments amid the reported scarcity of gunpowder on the global market.
