Kuwait Amb. To EU Urges Arab-Islamic World To Speak With Unified Voice On Gaza


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ambassador to the EU, Belgium and NATO Nawaf Al-Enezi Monday decried the double-standards prevalent in international relations regarding the war in Gaza, urging Arab and Muslim countries to take a firm and unified stance to stop the Israeli aggression.
Speaking at the press conference of the Brussels-based Ambassadors of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) with the support of the Arab League, Al-Enezei referred to the application of "double standards" regarding Gaza, saying this has paralysed the international system.
"We see a paralysed Security Council. A paralysed international system that cannot act in one unified voice," he said, and voiced his concerns that "powerful states can act with impunity".
"This is very unfortunate. After 38 days (of war in Gaza) and killing of over 12,00 people now is the time to speak in a unified voice. Enough is enough. We should all call for a ceasefire," he said.
"Our press conference coincides with the meeting of the EU foreign ministers, and we hope that they will be able to reach consensus on calling for an immediate ceasefire and breaking the siege in Gaza," stressed the Kuwaiti ambassador.
The OIC ambassadors in their intervention called upon the EU to pressure Israel to bring about an immediate and complete ceasefire and put an end to the Israeli aggression in Gaza.
OIC Ambassador to the EU Ismat Jahan said the world is witnessing continued Israeli aggressions and brutal massacres against the population with total impunity.
"This is an affront to humanity," she said and added that the media has "the responsibility to right the wrong." Some say that Israel has the right to self defence within the constraints of international law, "but who is really ensuring that Israel is doing this?! she asked.
Mohammad Mahmoud Ould Brahim Khlil, Ambassador of Mauritania whose country currently chairs the OIC Foreign Ministers Council condemned the unjustified and brutal Israel aggression against the civilian civilian population in Gaza, called on the media to present an objective and fair view of the war.
Palestineآ's ambassador to the EU and Belgium Abdalrahim Alfarra said EU officials told him recently that they doubted the figure that 10,000 people were killed in Gaza.
"Today the figure has risen to over 12,000. Our message is that the EU must take a fair stance," he stressed.
On his part, Egyptian Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union Badr Abdel Atty said: "we have a unified message to the EU, which is to call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza." "Those who are talking of Israelآ's right to self defence are giving a blank cheque to Israel to continue its massive killing of innocent people. We must stop the cycle of systematic killings," he stressed.
Qatarآ's ambassador to the EU Abdulaziz bin Ahmad Al Malki said his country has been playing a major role for the release of hostages in Gaza. "We are trying our best to release much hostages, and for this we need a ceasefire." Jordanآ's ambassador to Belgium and the EU, Ms Saja Majali, noted that several Arab countries have withdrawn their ambassadors from Israel in protest against the gruesome war against civilians in Gaza.
"We need a ceasefire now and unhindered humanitarian aid," she stressed.
Faruk Kaymakci, Turkiyeآ's ambassador in Brussels said article 11 of the joint OIC-Arab summit conclusions on Saturday mandates foreign ministers to start immediate action to initiate international action to stop the war in Gaza.
"This is an international appeal to stop this war and aggression," he said.
Iranآ's ambassador to the EU Hossein Dehghani called for international pressure on Israel to stop its aggression.
"As long as Israel does not feel the pressure and accountability it will continue its genocide in Gaza. Not condemning the aggressor is supporting the aggressor," he said.
The OIC ambassadors said it is futile to talk about the "day after" when the war is still continuing.
"Its ridiculous top talk about the future of Gaza during the mass killing of innocent people. We will not allow anyone to talks about the day after without addressing the concerns and conditions of today," said the Egyptian ambassador.
Ambassador of Pakistan in Brussels Amna Baloch called for immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza and said her country stood with the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination.
Meanwhile, a group of Palestinians held a demonstration outside the EU Council building where EU foreign ministers are meeting. They held a placard saying "We will never forgive." (end) nk
