Putrefaction of corpses thrown in streets of Sudan increases fear of public health catastrophe

(MENAFN) Dozens of corpses, both fighters as well as citizens, are thrown in the roads of Sudan, mainly in the war areas of Khartoum, Bahari, in addition to Omdurman, increasing worries of a public health catastrophe.

Eyewitnesses informed a news agency on Tuesday that both citizen and fighters bodies have not been buried in Khartoum because of the current combats between the Sudanese military and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as well as their nearness to blasting locations.

The putrefaction of these bodies has started as they have remained in the open for many days and civilians have been incapable of carrying them for suitable burials, raising the risk of illness spreading in the north African nation suffering from conflict between the two forces since April 2023.

On Sunday, The Central Committee of Health Officers, a Sudanese non-administrative association, released a caution around the environmental dangers posed by putrefying bodies on the roads because of the conflict and its effect on health as well as the environment.
