Science Stream Records 90.53% Passing Rate In Secondary School Exams

Doha, Qatar: Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi yesterday approved the results of secondary school certificate exams of government schools for the academic year 2022-23.

After the approval, a press conference was held at the headquarters of the Ministry to announce the results. As many as 13,489 students (boys and girls) appeared in the secondary school certificate exams.

The passing rate of regular students in science, arts, humanities, and technology streams has been recorded at 90.53%, 79.79%, and 84.01% respectively. As many as 27 students secured 100% marks and 7,912 students obtained 70% and above marks in all three streams. For the first time, a Qatari girl student secured 100% marks in the Secondary School Certificate Examinations.

The Minister congratulated the students and their parents for the success, appreciating in this context the efforts of teachers and school principals who applied the best educational practices and methods and were characterised by sincerity and dedication throughout the year.

She said that this success is the fruit of the cooperation of all parties to the educational process, expressing her thanks to the Evaluation Affairs Sector in the Ministry for its pioneering role in the process of developing and supervising tests and publishing the results with all objectivity and transparency.

The Minister called on the students whose luck did not favour them in these exams to make more efforts to improve their academic achievement in the second-round exams so that they can benefit from the opportunities and options of higher education provided by the State, whether joining local universities or scholarship programmes.

The meeting in which exams' results were approved was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi; Assistant Undersecretary for Evaluation Affairs Khalid Al Harqan; and other senior officials of the Ministry.

Separately, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education held a press conference, in which it reviewed success rates in streams and academic subjects.

The press conference was attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Evaluation Affairs Khalid Al Harqan, Director of Student Evaluation Department Khalifa Al Derham and Director of Public Relations and Communications Department Maryam Abdullah Al Mohannadi.

Al Harqan said that the academic achievement rate of students is better this academic year compared to the previous academic year.

The amendments that were made to the student evaluation policies for this academic year 2022-2023 contributed to raising the success rates, as the amendments included marks improvement rules regardless of the academic level of students. Al Harqan said that the passing rate of the science stream for regular students has been recorded at 90.53% and the passing rate for adult education of the same stream is 35.85%.

He said that the passing rate of the arts and humanities stream of regular students is 79.79% while for adult education of the same stream is 35.93%.“Technology stream of regular students secured 84.01% passing rate. Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys, Religious Preparatory Secondary Institute for Boys and Qatar Banking Sciences and Business Administration Secondary School secured a 100% passing rate,” said Al Harqan.

He said that Qatar Technical Secondary School for regular students obtained an 86.1% passing rate and adult education at the same school secured a 62.07% passing rate.“Auditory schools secured a 60% passing rate and parallel stream/adult education obtained a 64.7% passing rate,” said Al Harqan.

Khalifa Al Derham said:“We will announce within a few days about the readiness of the system for the issuance of the certificate to students of public schools and private schools that apply the national curricula through the public services portal on the Ministry's website.”
