Doha, Qatar: Omani embassies in various countries all over the world and the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in Muscat marked the World Blood Donors Day which falls on June 14.

This is a humanitarian initiative that reflects a deep understanding that goes beyond the usual roles of diplomatic missions and embassies abroad.

Omani diplomats, their families and employees at the Sultanate's embassies visited hospitals in the countries of accreditation to donate blood. Foreign Ministry staffs have also donated blood through the medical visit of a specialized team from Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.

Ambassador of Oman to Qatar H E Najib bin Yahya Al Balushi said that this humanitarian initiative is part of the Foreign Ministry's strategy to support the health sector and raise awareness of the importance of blood donation as a humanitarian activity to help meet the increasing demand for blood in hospitals and medical centres around the world.

He said that the blood donation initiative also encourages the Ministry's employees to maximise the value of humanisation, selflessness, social responsibility, partnership and the expansion of humanitarian charitable work.

The voluntary blood donation initiative received good response from the Foreign Ministry's employees and from the Omani diplomatic missions abroad, and reflected their awareness and the benevolent culture of the Omani society, and their sincere belief in the importance of this humanitarian work.
