(MENAFN- The Conversation) Rebecca Saari is an Associate Professor at the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at the University of Waterloo. A winner of the 2015 Daniel and Ava Roos Dissertation Award from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Saari is an internationally recognized expert in the health impacts of air pollution under climate change. Her team develops novel, interdisciplinary modelling tools of human and natural systems to analyze the health risks and benefits of engineering and policy responses to climate change, including mitigation and adaptation. Prof. Saari's research contributions are published in high impact journals including Nature Climate Change. Dr. Saari has been invited by the World Health Organization, Health Canada, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA; Climate Change; Health and Environmental Impacts Divisions), and U.S. Department of Energy to set guidelines for climate impacts research. Her analysis of health impacts of climate policy has been requested by White House staff, cited by the head of the USEPA in the press (including CBC, NBC, and the New York Times), and used to support climate legislation in U.S. federal court.
