Investor couldn’t manage visa to attend court in Russia


(MENAFN) United States private-equity investor Michael Calvey couldn not get a visa to show up at his hearing of his appeal against a fraud conviction in Moscow, his lawyer, Larisa Kashtanova, informed Interfax on Friday.

Philippe Delpal, Calvey’s French associate also didn’t show up in court. His lawyer declared that the businessman had planned to appear but could not cause of visa complications due to current situations. The attorneys for both clients said that their clients have approved to appear and tried in absentia.

And in 2021, Calvey, the ex- chief of Baring Vostok, a USD3.7-billion investment companies that he built. Was given a 5.5- year halted sentence in Russia for theft, after the judge found out that the he and his partners has planned to pocket tens of millions of dollars.
