Turkish Presidential Spokesman Comments on Ukraine War

(MENAFN) Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin has commented on the ongoing war in Ukraine, stating that it cannot be ended through "piecemeal gains" by either side. Speaking to the Haberturk news channel, Kalin shared his impressions of a recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that Russia is proposing a new global security architecture that would involve the West, Ukraine, Europe, and NATO.

Kalin believes that a new agreement and bargaining at the strategic level is necessary to end the war in Ukraine. He stated that without such an agreement, the conflict cannot be resolved through incremental gains by either side. He emphasized that his impression from his meeting with Putin was that Russia does not intend to continue the war indefinitely, but the major question is finding an honorable way out for both sides.

Kalin also mentioned that Turkey has a suggestion for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, but he refrained from calling it a "plan" in order to avoid being misunderstood. He noted that the international atmosphere currently favors war over peace, with the great powers wanting the conflict to continue.

Kalin expressed frustration with the initial approach of calling the war in Ukraine a "war of attrition." He stated that it was clear early on that this approach would not work, and that Russia could have been brought to its knees through economic sanctions and other measures within the first six months of the conflict. However, this did not happen, and the conflict has continued to this day.

Overall, Kalin's comments highlight the need for a new approach to resolving the war in Ukraine. He believes that a strategic level agreement and bargaining is necessary, rather than relying on incremental gains. While Turkey has a suggestion for resolving the conflict, the current international atmosphere is not favorable to peace, and the conflict may continue for some time to come.
