Iran to Construct 110,000 Solar Power Plants for Low-Income Groups in 2022

(MENAFN) Iran is set to construct 110,000 solar power plants with a capacity of five kilowatts (KW) for low-income groups this year, according to Mahmoud Kamani, the head of Iran's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA). Kamani also revealed that the tender for the construction of solar power plants with a capacity of 2,200 megawatts, which was left over from the plan for the construction of solar power plants with a capacity of 4,000 megawatts in the past year, will be held this year.

The Iranian government has been actively working towards the implementation of a plan for the construction of renewable power plants, which was announced by the minister of energy at the beginning of the 13th government. Kamani stated that preparations for the implementation of this plan have been followed up, and some measures have been taken in this regard in the past Iranian year, 1401.

In early February, Kamani announced that Iran's renewable power plant capacity had reached 1,020 megawatts (MW) with the 10-MW Pasargad Solar Farm of Damghan coming into operation. During the inauguration of the solar farms in Damghan County, Kamani also highlighted a unique feature of the solar power plant, which can generate electricity from the reflection of sunlight. This feature makes its generation efficiency higher, resulting in a 40-percent increase in efficiency.

The construction of these solar power plants is a significant step for Iran in its bid to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix. With a focus on low-income groups, the move will not only help the country meet its energy needs but also ensure that electricity is accessible to all, regardless of their economic status. The government's continued efforts towards the construction of renewable power plants demonstrate its commitment to achieving a sustainable energy future.
