(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Afghanistan University has announced to sell its library due to financial issues which led to the suspension of the private educational institution in the capital city of Kabul.
The library accommodates nearly 3,000 books on different principles including political sciences, international relations, law, religious education, economics, security, and social sciences.
The library includes bookshelves, a computer lab, equipped with e-books, and electronic search systems which facilitates issuing and returning books effectively.
Many students of Afghanistan University have described the decision of the university management as extremely disappointing and unfair because it adversely affects the future of hundreds of students who are still studying for their respective degrees at this educational institution.
“As a current student of this university, I'm overwhelmingly disappointed with this decision. Afghanistan University did not only leave its students midway but also darkened the future of dozens of students,” one student commented.
The university management has taken the decision without communicating it with the students, which is believed to have political reasons behind it.
Since the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021, the dire economic situation has had its ramifications on private universities and educational institutions as well. A considerable number of universities closed their doors mainly due to financial issues and social constraints imposed by the Taliban-run administration.
The Taliban takeover last August hit Afghanistan's reading culture and book industry especially hard. Universities, libraries, bookstores, and the publishing industry went quiet, and are on the verge of gradual closure.
Meanwhile, the ban restricting women and girls from attending university education has negatively impacted the financial situation of private universities. Nearly half of the female students studying for their degrees in private educational institutions have been barred for the past months.
It is believed that the continuation of the current dire economic situation will force more universities and educational institutions to cease operation mainly due to financial issues across Afghanistan, which will eventually add to the problems of education of the country's young generation.
