Hiker falls from cliff, swept out to sea in tragic accident at Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area
(MENAFN) The corpse of a hiker who fell from a steep bluff, was knocked unconscious in the fall, and was then carried out to sea has been found.
Assisting in the man's rescue, Oregon State Police responded to a plea for assistance at Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area, roughly 100 miles west of Portland along the Pacific coast, at around 5 p.m. on Saturday, according to officials.
The victim, 25-year-old Henry Minh Hoang of West Covina, California, apparently slipped and fell roughly 20 feet to the coastline below while trekking over a safety fence in the park's "the punch bowl" section.
“The victim was reportedly knocked unconscious from the fall and was swept into the ocean by the waves,” Following the incident, Oregon State Police issued a statement. “Witnesses lost sight of the victim and the rescue operation later [transitioned] into a likely recovery operation.”
Police stated that after searching for Hoang until late Saturday afternoon, they had to give up and wait until Sunday am when it was safe to restart the search.
