Iran ranks as world's 11th largest automaker in 2022

(MENAFN) Iran ranks 11th in the world's largest automakers list for 2022, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) annual report. The report reveals that Iran's position among the world's top automakers has improved by eight places in 2022 compared to the previous year. Iran was ranked 19th in the ACEA list of the world's top automakers in 2021. Iranian automakers manufactured 1,085,859 vehicles in 2022, registering a 10.8% growth compared to 979,969 cars in 2021. The report shows that over 68 million cars were produced globally in 2022, indicating a 7.9% increase compared to 2021.

The Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mining, and Trade's data also confirms a 25% increase in car manufacturing during the first 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2022-February 19, 2023), compared to the same period in the previous year. Over 1.126 million vehicles were manufactured in Iran during the 11-month period of this year, according to the ministry's data. However, the current year's production is almost 30% behind the projected schedule, despite officials from the Industry, Mining, and Trade Ministry repeatedly emphasizing that car production will reach 1.6 million vehicles in the current year.

The Iranian government is optimistic about the future of its auto manufacturing industry, with the ministry's auto manufacturing target for the next Iranian year (begins on March 21) set at 1.8 million vehicles. The increase in production is viewed as an opportunity for job creation and boosting the country's economic growth.
