Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs to supply Qatari Imams, Muezzins from National Service Academy for Ramadan

(MENAFN) The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has taken a significant step to ensure the availability of Qatari Imams and Muezzins in mosques during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. The ministry has announced that dozens of new recruits assigned to the National Service Academy at Miqdam Camp will be trained in Sharia sciences to lead the worshipers in all prayers, including Tarawih and Tahajjud, during Ramadan.

The training programme began in September 2022, and it will conclude in March 2023. The Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance has organised a series of Sharia courses for the recruits to provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to lead the prayers. The programme was presented by a group of specialised teachers and preachers in the field of Sharia sciences. The ministry will conduct placement tests for trained Imams and Muezzins to ensure their understanding of the material taught. Those who pass successfully will be nominated to work in mosques during the holy month.

The initiative to provide Qatari Imams and Muezzins is the first fruit of the community cooperation and partnership agreement signed by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Ministry of Defense on August 2, 2022. The agreement aims to attract recruits assigned to the National Service Academy at Miqdam Camp to join as Imams, Muezzins, and orators. The initiative aligns with the wise leadership's vision and goals to supply the country's mosques with Qatari preachers and Imams who can understand the issues of society and know its needs and aspirations. Moreover, citizens are the link with society.

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is keen to strengthen community partnership with state institutions and achieve the ministry's strategy to attract and qualify Qatari Imams and Muezzins to work in mosques. The programme is also an essential step towards providing more opportunities for Qatari citizens to serve their country and contribute to society. Overall, the initiative is expected to enhance the religious experience for worshipers during the holy month of Ramadan and beyond.
