3 Ogws Held With Rs 31 Lakh Cash: Police

Srinagar- Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested three over-ground workers (OGWs) and recovered over Rs 31 lakh and incriminating materials from their possession in the outskirts of this capital city.

3 suspicious individuals carrying a blue colour cricket kit bag, tried to avoid a checkpoint manned by cops of police station Nowgam on the highway near Lasjan, a police spokesperson said. The suspects, he said, were tactfully apprehended by the alert naka party.

During searches of the bag carried by Umer Adil Dar, the spokesperson said, an amount of Rs 31, 65,200, a cell phone, besides three pages of LeT letterhead were recovered. He said five pages each of LeT letterhead were also recovered from Dar's accomplices identified as Bilal Asmad Sidiqi and Salik Mehraj.

During preliminary investigation, he said, it came to fore that the trio was working as terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit LeT.

“The money was received by them as a part of a conspiracy to strengthen its cadres within District Srinagar. The said money was received by them on the directions of their handlers based in Pakistan as a part of larger criminal conspiracy hatched by terrorist organization within and across the border to pass/ raise money/ funds for furthering their activities and cause large scale disturbances in the UT of J&K,” the spokesperson said.

In this connection, he said, a case FIR No. 20/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Nowgam.

“Further investigation into the case is in progress. More recoveries and arrests are expected in the instant case,” he added.
