Senegal Proclaimed Champion Of CHAN '22


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGIERS, Feb 4 (KUNA) -- Senegal's national football team defeated Algerian hosts 5-4 in thrilling penalty shootout in the final game of the Seventh African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022).
The game, held at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers on Saturday evening, saw a goalless main time despite apparent control and repeated attacks by the hosts.
The Algerian team secured the second place on the podium followed by Madagascar who beat Niger 1-0 yesterday.
On Friday, January 13, the championship opened at Nelson-Mandela Stadium, in Baraki district, to the east of Algiers, in the presence of Algerian Prime Minister Aimene Benabderrahmane, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, CAF President Patrice Motsepe, President of the Algerian Federation of Football (FAF) Djahid Zefizef and Zwelivelile Mandela - the grandson of South African iconic leader Nelson Mandela.
Co-organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FAF, CHAN 2022 gathered teams consisting of players in national league competitions. (end)
