Intrusion of suspect van to find him dead of self-inflicted gunshot

(MENAFN) The SWAT squad searched the suspect's van and discovered him dead from what seemed to be a self-inflicted gunshot, ending the manhunt for the lone suspect in a fatal shooting in Monterey Park and another attempted assault in Alhambra, California, on Sunday.

Huu Can Tran, 72, was named as the shooter. The motive behind his murder of ten individuals and injury of at least ten others during the Chinese New Year celebrations is still unknown to the police.

Robert Luna, the sheriff of Los Angeles County, spoke with media on Sunday, “I still have questions in my mind, which is: What was the motive for this shooter? Did he have a mental illness? Was he a domestic violence abuser?”

In the primarily Asian American neighborhood of Monterey Park, the tragedy occurred on Saturday night as tens of thousands of people gathered for California's largest two-day celebration.

Five ladies and five men were killed and ten additional persons, all of whom were said to be in their fifties or older, were injured when the suspect opened fire inside the Star Ballroom Dance Studio at around 10:20 p.m.
