Turkiye Awaits US, Russia To Ensure Security On Borders With Syria


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, Jan 3 (KUNA) -- Turkish Presidential Spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin said Tuesday that Turkiye is waiting for the US and Russia to uphold their obligations to ensure security on borders with Syria.
NTV news channel quoted Kalin as saying that Turkiye expects the US to implement its obligations in accordance with the 2019 agreement, and to cleanse the borders from terrorism, adding they will continue fighting terrorists that pose a threat to the national security until the border area is completely secure.
Regarding Turkish-US relations, Kalin said that the US position on terrorist organizations still affects the relations between the two countries, stressing that Ankara does not accept a unilateral imposition of policy, regardless of the source.
In a related context, the spokesman for the ruling Turkish Justice and Development Party Omer Celik announced that a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Syrian counterpart Bashar Al-Assad, is on the president's agenda.
It is time to build communications between the two countries and hold political talks, added Celik. (end)
