(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Amid the energy crisis in Afghanistan, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan's Acting Water Energy Minister, Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor traveled to Uzbekistan.
On an official visit, Minister Mansoor traveled to Uzbekistan to meet with Uzbek officials and discuss the problems related to the supply of electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan, and extend the power contract for a couple of more years.
Mr. Mansoor also met with the Ambassador of Afghanistan, Dr. Ahmad Khalid Alami, and Consul General Mohammad Idris Zarshvi in Tashkent. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the problems Afghan citizens are faced with in Uzbekistan and possible solutions.
Amid the economic crisis and lack of foreign investment in the country since the overthrow of the previous regime in August 2021, Afghanistan's interim administration is looking for every single option to attract the attention of national and international investors across fields.
Previously, the Taliban authorities canceled the contract to manage the Hairatan-Mazar-e-Sharif railway with an Uzbek company and gave it to a Kazakhstani company called Mansour Fatih, instead.
Uzbekistan, one of Afghanistan's Central Asian neighbors remains a friendly partner of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan regime. Uzbekistan was one of the few countries which kept its diplomatic mission operational after the withdrawal of the American forces from Afghanistan in August 2021.
Since then Uzbek authorities have continued their humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan through the Hairatan-Mazar-e-Sharif rail track, and have emphasized on the expansion of bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the countries.
