Russia's biggest copper mine in Siberia to begin operation in 2023

(MENAFN) Udokan, Russia's biggest copper mine, sited in eastern Siberia, is arranged to begin shipment in 2023.

Sited among Lake Baikal in the west as well as the Pacific Ocean in the east, the mine is the biggest copper mine in Russia as well as the third-biggest copper greenfield mine in the globe, with nearly 26.7 million tons of assets.

The remote location of the mine has made its improvement very hard because of the harsh climatic situations where temperatures fall to as low as negative 50 degrees.

The mine was found by geologists discovering uranium in Russia's Zabaykalsky Krai area in Siberia 73 years ago (1949), but the needed effort to improve the mine might not be continued for over 70 years.

USM Holding, 49 percent of which is possessed by the Russian and Uzbek billionaire Alisher Usmanov, began the operation in Udokan by possessing the needed licenses 14 years ago, and it is currently arranged to start in 2023.
