Spain to issue huge fines for non-compliance with energy restrictions


(MENAFN) The Spanish administration Is going to allegedly subject huge fines for non-obedience with energy sanctions driven by the continuing energy catastrophe in Europe.

The penalties are going to range from up to €60,000 for small crimes, to a maximum of €600,000 for severe desecrations, Spanish newspaper El Mundo mentioned in a report on Tuesday.

The administration declared a set of procedures on Tuesday targeted at dropping electricity intake by businesses, quoting “a real risk of a natural gas shortage during the coming winter”.

In line with a decree issued in the official state bulletin, shops, department stores, cinemas, hotels as well as public buildings cannot have air conditioning set below 27 degrees Celsius in the summer, heating above 19 degrees in the winter, the lights in shop windows must be turned off at 10 pm, and access doors to the premises must close automatically to guarantee air does not get out.
Businesses have been given seven days to adjust to the new procedures, which is going to be in force until November next year.
