Amman, July 5 (Petra) -- Jordan's industrial goods have a significant opportunity to gain a foothold in the Algerian market, president of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Fathi Al-Jaghbir said on Tuesday.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Al-Jaghbir indicated that leather and textile industries, medical supplies, chemical, food, agricultural and livestock industries are the main products that can access the Algerian market.
He called for the reactivation of a 1997 trade cooperation agreement between Jordan and Algeria as well as a deal to promote and expand trade between Arab nations.
Additionally, Al-Jaghbir emphasized the need for talks about opening a direct maritime transport route between Jordan, Algeria, and the other Arab nations in north Africa.
Additionally, he noted that the Amman and Jordan Chambers of Industry regularly hold bilateral meetings with Algerian businesspeople and traders to showcase and market Jordanian goods.
He noted that the top exports from the Kingdom to Algeria are pharmaceuticals, packaging materials, and pesticides, while the top imports from the north African Arab country are sugarcane, petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons, tires, ceramic supplies, and chocolate. The total value of trade between the two nations in 2021 was JD141 million.
